Overview: Working with Dreamweaver and other HTML editors

Chances are, an image exported from Fireworks is destined to appear on a Web page. That means the link to that image, and all the JavaScript or HTML table code necessary to make rollovers function, has to be placed in an HTML document.

Fireworks can export an HTML document containing all that code. However, most designers rarely build Web pages from the HTML document created by Fireworks. Usually, that code is grafted into existing HTML documents. Since Fireworks-generated HTML often contains advanced JavaScript or tables for rollovers and slicing, placing the correct parts of a Fireworks HTML document into the correct sections of the destination HTML file is essential.

Many Web designers use an HTML editing tool such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive, or Microsoft FrontPage. Fireworks simplifies the task of putting your HTML into an HTML editor with a variety of HTML export styles that cater specifically to several of the leading editors.

If you use Macromedia Dreamweaver 3 along with Fireworks, you can take advantage of several unique features that integrate the two applications, including interchangeable behaviors, sophisticated tracking of file updates, and even automatic HTML updates.
